Nishauri — “Please advise me” in Swahili — is a mobile health counseling service for youth-at-risk in Mathare, an informal settlement of Nairobi, Kenya. Nishauri provides a safe, reliable source of information on HIV/AIDS prevention and reproductive health for adolescents and young people in a community where inaccurate advice and rumors can lead to extremely risky behavior.
Users can text in questions about HIV/AIDS, STIs, reproductive health, relationships, and other sensitive topics via Short Message Service (SMS), and receive confidential responses from community health counselors directly on their mobile phones. A first-phase pilot is currently operating in Nairobi. Learn more about the project.
